Panton Chair Contest Winners
It has been 50 years since Verner Panton created first curved plastic chairs. Today the famous curved shape is classic, the symbol of contemporary furniture design in the 60′s. It was not always easy for Verner Panton and Vitra.
They spent 10 difficult years before the idea of one piece, contemporary plastic chairs design was excepted, but the effort and time were not wasted. Verner Panton was rewarded for popular and modern chairs design.

For the 50th anniversary of Panton Chairs design Vitra, the contemporary furniture design studio, organized the Panton Chair Design contest. The company’s clients and Verner Panton Chair fans were invited to explore their creativity for contemporary furniture design and show their modifications of Panton plastic chairs.

The Panton Chair Design contest criteria was allowing to create practically anything that can be lifted and looked like Panton plastic chairs. The judges of the Panton Chair Design contest were Terence Conran, Kevin McCloud and Charles Saatchi.
31 modern contemporary furniture design concept projects were presented to the judges during the contemporary furniture design competition.

The Panton Chair design contest winner
The judges had difficulties to choose the best furniture design concept or famous chairs modification. However, the winner of the Panton Chair Design contest is the chair, developed by Jump Studios, the architectural and modern contemporary furniture design studio from London.
The Jump design studio presented beautiful contemporary chairs modification concept and intricate modern design form. The unique contemporary furniture design consists of the plastic chairs frame and many thin threads to form the original chairs shape, demonstrating famous modern design curve.

Terence Conran commented on the Jump design studio project that Panton would have been proud of this contemporary furniture design concept.

John Nouanesing, who did not participated in the recent Panton Chair Design contest, got inspired by modern chairs shape and offered his interesting, unusual interpretation of how modern designer chairs can be used. He showed unique wall decorating for the entry, using chairs parts as hangers for jackets.
